Investigation Underway After Possible Grenade Found Buried In CT Yard

Authorities are investigating after a possible grenade was found buried in a yard in Connecticut.

Police in Hartford County responded to a location on Troy Road in South Windsor at about 2:45 p.m. on Monday, April 18, according to the South Windsor Police Department. 

A man, who was checking the property with a metal detector, reported that he found what appeared to be a grenade buried about a foot under the grass in the front yard, police said. 

Police evacuated the area and closed Troy Road between Rye Street and Brookfield Street.

The Hartford Police Department's Bomb Squad responded an X-ray of the item was inconclusive, authorities reported.

The item was seized and the road was reopened at about 6 p.m., police said.
